Der Letzte Mann (The Last Laugh) - F.W. Murnau - 1924
A lot of very clever trickery was used to create some of the scenes in Der Letzte Mann. Sets designed in forced perspective to make things seem nearer or further, larger or smaller.
This scene of the street outside the Atlantic hotel has buildings built in forced perspective. The cars nearest the camera are real but further away are small cars driven by children dressed as adults and even further back are smaller model cars. In front of the windows opposite are wooden silhouettes moving to and fro to give the impression of shoppers.
